Learn All About the Guy Lafleur Rookie Cards

By: Marty Beets

Guy Lafleur is considered one of the greatest hockey players in history. He was the first player to score 50 goals in 6 straight seasons and retired as the Canadiens' all-time scoring leader.

His rookie and early cards are very sought after and valuable. Let's take a look at some of these vintage Guy Lafleur cards:

1971-72   O-Pee-Chee

Card #148

This is the most widely-recognized and valuable Guy Lafleur card. It is considered a rookie.

The 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee is the first major-release Guy Lafleur card.  O-Pee-Chee spelled his last name as "La Fleur," but it isn’t supposed to have the space.

1971-72 Canadiens postcard

This is a team-release postcard.  It is considered an oddball rookie.

It was common during this era for teams to issue a set of postcards.  Guy Lafleur was included as a rookie in the 1971-72 Canadiens set.

1971-72  O-Pee-Chee Poster

This poster was included in packs of 1971-72  O-Pee-Chee cards. It is considered an oddball rookie.

Card #13

The 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee posters are inserts that came folded in wax packs.  They measure 10″ x 18″ and are valuable and very rare.

1972-73  Topps

card #79

This is Guy Lafleur's first Topps hockey card.  It is not considered a rookie card.

Guy Lafleur was not included in the 1971-72 Topps hockey set because it had a smaller checklist than the O-Pee-Chee set.  There is an O-Pee-Chee version of this card.
